Overview

Budget Revolution is a personal budgeting application developed by Mason Meredith. This policy describes how we collect, use, store, retain, and protect your information, and the rights you have over that information under applicable law.

Information We Collect

How We Use Your Information

Your financial data is used only to calculate your available spending, categorize expenses, and generate reports for your personal use, and for the onboarding and setup figures described under Anonymized and Aggregated Data below. We do not use your data for advertising and we do not sell, rent, or share your personal information with any third party for marketing purposes.

Automated Transaction Categorization (AI)

To categorize transactions automatically, Budget Revolution sends transaction descriptions, merchant names, and amounts to a third-party AI provider — Anthropic (Claude), xAI (Grok), or OpenAI — which returns a suggested category. These providers do not receive your name, login credentials, bank account numbers, or balances. Requests are processed under each provider's API data-usage terms, and we do not permit use of this data for advertising.

Anonymized and Aggregated Data

Budget Revolution does not create, retain, sell, or share anonymized or aggregated data derived from your financial information, with one exception, a small set of onboarding and setup figures: what share of your spending was tagged when you finish onboarding, how many accounts you have linked, and how many credit cards are not yet matched to a parent account. These figures stay linked to your account, the Budget Revolution team sees them under a code instead of your name, and they are never sold or shared. If this practice ever changes, this policy will be updated and you will be notified in advance.

Data Storage and Security

Third-Party Services

We use Plaid, Inc. to connect to your financial institutions. Plaid's collection, use, and sharing of your information is governed by Plaid's End User Privacy Policy. By using Budget Revolution to link a financial account, you also agree to Plaid's End User Privacy Policy.

We use Stripe, Inc. to process subscription payments. We share your email address with Stripe and store a Stripe customer identifier and your subscription status; your card details are collected and stored by Stripe directly. Stripe's handling of your information is governed by Stripe's Privacy Policy.

As described above, transaction descriptions, merchant names, and amounts may be processed by an AI provider (Anthropic, xAI, or OpenAI) solely to suggest spending categories.
